What we have here is a demo version or perhaps an unmixed raw version of the song Shelter which appeared on Perfection of Desire. I’m guessing it’s a demo as it doesn’t have that kind of rushed/sped up section at the end.
The dated drum machine and sample make this all the more creepy and then you have the hushed vocals which conjure up images of Raymond Cappo aka Ragunath keeping his voice down in a dimly lit closet of a Hare Krsna temple. There’s a desperation that permeates the recording in that it sounds like a man with a message with limited tools, just some raw materials lying around and a concept.
If this was made under a pseudonym by a thin boy in Bushwick it might be featured on Pitchfork or at least be a well travelled blog post for a few months before another genre is invented by a writer looking for a niche.

A timeline mix of songs that defined my journey through suburbia before ending up confused in a college dormitory in the thick of indie rock.
Each song has an accompanying story in the mp3’s lyrics section, you can jus tap your iPhone or iPod touch while the mix is playing and read along.
Follow Live…Suburbia! for all the details on my new book with Max G Morton coming out this fall.
